What is Psychodynamic Psychotherapy?

Psychodynamic Psychotherapy is a therapeutic process that focuses on increasing awareness of a person’s inner world and unidentified or unspoken intention and values as well as their influence on the past and present relationships. It targets not purely on making behavioural change, but rather it centralises on promoting change in self-expression and emotional development. At M.A.D Therapy, we aim to offer a fun and creative experience while we support our clients to explore the unconscious emotions and stories that are waiting to unfold.

By understanding the unconscious patterns behind our behaviours and how they impact on our relationships, we can then take proactive steps toward developing new responses that would serve our well-being and promote authenticity.

So what to expect during the process?

M.A.D. Therapists are trained in integrating a psychodynamic therapeutic process into the different creative arts mediums that they bring into a session. So expect to unpack the metaphors, symbols, dreams, masks and stories that play a part in your life. Be surprised by the characteristics you seek or despise in superheroes and villains whom you are drawn to or repelled by. Be astonished by the unspoken meaning and intention behind your movement, that is often a step ahead of the mind in recognising danger, love and passion. Be enlightened by the unfolding dreams that play you new tunes and paint you new scenes to create a new dance in your life.
