Eriko Kinoshita

After I was drawn to few kinds of visual arts and cultural arts practice in Japan, I encountered the concept of art therapy which sounded about just right to pursue my interests beyond creative self-expression. Art therapy study really helped me to self-explore and self-reflect on my inner experience and over time, to achieve more conscious way of life with healthier interpersonal relationships, purposeful life decisions, more sense of fulfilment and whole hearted emotional life experiences. I won’t lie, sometimes it’s not easy at all to look into our own behavioural patterns, those big emotions and accepting Light and Dark parts of ourselves. It’s Mad. Yet I can confidently say that Art therapy tools can allow inner self-exploration very colourful and joyful experiences not just challenging ones.

With this belief, I have worked extensively in the community mental health sector as an art therapist for nearly 15 years with people from all walks of life, from everyday challenges to Domestic Violence, Depression, Anxiety, Parental Separation, Abuse, Neglect, Grief and Loss, Disabilities and Emotional trauma and anything in between. I have offered countless art therapy sessions individually, small/ large size group and dyad work (one parent/care giver and one child).

The past 6 years, I have been extremely fortunate to work with other forms of creative therapy (dramatherapy, music therapy, play therapy, dance movement therapy) and that has only expanded the possibilities to engage with humans in more creative ways. I have witnessed throughout my work life, human’s unique ability to use creativity and imagination to build their resilience, curiosity and robustness in order to achieve more whole hearted and whole brained life experiences. I just love to tune in with each person’s unique quality, quirk and sparks very much!
